Boxing workouts using heavy bags or boxing pads is beneficial. A cobra reflex bag, in particular, is a great way to challenge your reaction time. Using your heavy bag gloves, start slowly with single punches until you find a steady rhythm.
Get used to the bounce-back of the bag as you warm up. Then, ramp up the speed and force of your punches, alternating between left and right jabs.
Each time the bag comes back toward you, practice slipping or rolling away as part of your defense training. Follow up with a counter shot and continue the cycle by mixing up different punch combinations.
Using a cobra reflex bag tests your hand-eye coordination and reflex time. It also builds your stamina and endurance, both of which are important for boxing training.
Timing Shots with Boxing Mitts

There are different types of boxing stances, punches, and techniques you can utilize as you move around the mat. And, as you begin, focus on building accuracy rather than speed. Once you get used to the pace, you can throw punches more frequently.

Practicing Basic Footwork
Boxing training requires the entire body working together to create speed, strength, and accuracy. Therefore, to land good punches, staying light on the feet is essential. It puts intensity behind your punches so they can land as you want them.
Agile footwork keeps your opponent off guard and allows you to follow through on your punches to deliver a greater impact. An easy footwork drill often used in boxing classes is the lateral shuffle.
Start with the feet together. Next, take one small step to the side with your right foot and immediately follow the movement with your left. Continue this right-left foot movement for 30 seconds, before taking a break.
Work your way up to several rounds of these 30-second shuffles. Then, switch and practice with the left foot as the lead followed by the right.
Similarly, the forward-back shuffle is the same concept but moving the feet forward and backward. Though these footwork drills are simple, they are meant to improve your balance, agility, and speed.
The goal is to get you comfortable moving around the mat and securely positioning yourself to throw accurate boxing punches.
